Can East Hampton Town benefit from using a CCA program to purchase green energy on behalf of residents and businesses?
TOWN OF EAST HAMPTON (August 30, 2019)-The Town of East Hampton is considering establishing a Community Choice Aggregation (CCA) program to purchase electricity on behalf of residents and businesses, to insure that a greater percentage of our electricity is coming from renewable sources.
Through a CCA program, local governments can procure green energy power for use by residents, businesses, and the municipality, which would be delivered through their existing utility provider’s transmission and distribution service – allowing the community to exercise more control over its electricity sources, and move toward the use of more renewable energy.
The Town Energy Sustainability Committee will be hosting two public information forums for East Hampton residents and local business owners to learn how CCA could benefit them:
Tuesday, September 10, 2019 and Monday, September 16, 2019
6:00 P.M. to 7:30 P.M.
At East Hampton Town Hall- 159 Pantigo Road, East Hampton
CCAs are an option for communities that support a shift to the use of green power and want more green power than is offered by their local utility. By aggregating demand, communities gain leverage to choose greener power sources and potentially negotiate better rates with competitive suppliers.
Five years ago, the Town of East Hampton adopted a goal of meeting 100 percent of community-wide energy consumption needs with renewable energy sources by 2030. Progress is being made, and establishing a CCA could be a significant step for the Town towards achieving this goal. In June, 2019, in response to recommendations of the Energy Sustainability Committee, the town board unanimously
passed a resolution agreeing to consider establishing a CCA energy program in conjunction with the Town
of Southampton and other East End municipalities.
Participation in a CCA is never mandatory for consumers; should a community establish a CCA, individual
residents or businesses will have a choice to opt out of the program and continue receiving electricity
from their current supplier. The Town of Southampton has already adopted legislation allowing the
creation of a CCA, and the first Community Choice Aggregation program has been established in
Westchester County.

powered energy and toward a cleaner energy future. More information on CCA can be found at
